Common Questions

Can I install a pet door into my existing double-glazed window?

Not directly — double-glazed and tempered glass panels need to be replaced with a new pane that has the hole pre-cut at the time of manufacture. Your glazier handles this as part of the installation. It sounds more complicated than it is — glaziers do this regularly and it’s one of the most common requests we get.

What makes Catwalk® and Dogwalk® different from other pet doors?

The round cut-out. Most pet doors use a rectangular hole which is harder to cut cleanly, especially in glass. Catwalk® and Dogwalk® use a round cut-out that glaziers can drill in one clean pass — faster, neater, and less risk of cracking the panel. The flaps are also made from UV-stabilised polycarbonate — the same material used in aircraft windows.

How do I know which size to get?

Measure your pet’s shoulder height and width — the flap opening needs to be at least as wide as your pet’s shoulders and tall enough that they don’t have to duck uncomfortably. When in doubt, go one size up. Our Pet Door Selector Guide walks you through it with specific measurements.

Can I install a wood fitting door myself?

Yes — wood fitting models are designed for DIY installation using standard household tools. A template is included with every door. Most people complete the job in under an hour. Glass fitting installations require a glazier to cut the hole — that part isn’t DIY.

How does the magnetic cat door work — and does it need batteries?

No batteries, ever. The Catwalk® Multi-Magnetic system uses a small magnet attached to your cat’s collar. When your cat approaches, the collar magnet activates the latch — only your cat gets in. No electronics, no power source, nothing to replace.

What is the difference between a cat door and a dog door?

Cat doors are sized and engineered for the lighter, more agile movement of cats. Dog doors are heavier duty — larger flap openings, stronger frames, and built to handle the daily wear of medium to large breeds. Both the Catwalk® and Dogwalk® ranges use the same 4-way locking dial and full brush seal system.

Can a pet door be fitted into a glass sliding door or ranch slider?

Yes — ranch sliders and glass sliding doors are one of the most common installations for the Pet-Tek glass fitting range. A glazier replaces the sliding panel with a new pane that has the round hole pre-drilled, then installs the door. Do Pet-Tek pet doors come with a warranty?

Yes — every Catwalk® and Dogwalk® model comes with a 3-year manufacturer’s warranty against production defects. The UV-stabilised polycarbonate flaps are built to last — many customers report their Pet-Tek doors still performing perfectly after 10+ years of daily use.
