Frequently Asked Questions — Cat Doors for Wooden Doors
Yes — the Catwalk® wood fitting range is specifically designed for installation into timber, PVC, hollow-core and metal doors. You cut a rectangular opening in the door panel, then clip the inner and outer frames into place. No glazier is required. Models suit panels from 11mm to 52mm thick depending on the model. Contact us if you’re unsure which model suits your door.
Both share the same flap size (160×140mm) and overall frame dimensions. The slim line models (W-CDW, W-CDB) suit door panels from 11mm to 35mm thick — ideal for standard hollow-core and lightweight timber or PVC doors. The tunnel models (W-CDTW, W-CDTB) include a self-lining tunnel extension that accommodates thicker panels up to 52mm, ideal for solid timber doors, double-skin walls, or insulated panel doors. No cutting of the tunnel liner is required on either model.
Yes — wood fitting cat doors are designed for DIY installation using basic tools such as a jigsaw or hole saw, a drill, and a screwdriver. No glazier is required. You cut a rectangular opening in your door panel, then clip the inner and outer frames into place from each side. The tunnel liner on tunnel models fits without any cutting. Full step-by-step instructions are included with every door and available to download above.
Slim line models (W-CDW, W-CDB) suit panels from 11mm to 35mm thick. Tunnel models (W-CDTW, W-CDTB) and multi-magnetic models (W-MCDW, W-MCDB) suit panels from 11mm to 52mm thick. Measure your door panel thickness before ordering — include any weather strip or architrave if it adds to the effective thickness the tunnel must pass through. Contact us if you need help confirming the right model.
The W-MCDW (white) and W-MCDB (brown) stay locked by default. Your cat wears the C-M collar magnet which triggers the door to unlock automatically as they approach — no batteries or electronics required. It is entirely mechanical. Other animals without the collar magnet cannot open the door. The C-M collar magnet pack is sold separately and includes two magnets.
Catwalk® wood fitting cat doors are compatible with timber, PVC, hollow-core, and metal door panels. They are not suitable for glass panels — for glass door installations see the glass fitting cat door range. Always check your door panel thickness against the model specification before ordering.
All Catwalk® wood fitting cat door models are available in white and brown. White suits painted timber doors, white PVC doors, and modern interiors. Brown suits natural timber, stained doors, and traditional homes. Both colours use the same UV-stabilised polycarbonate flap and internal components — colour is a finish choice only and does not affect performance.
All Catwalk® wood fitting models share the same 160×140mm flap opening, which suits most standard domestic cats. Measure your cat at the shoulder — the flap height should be at least equal to this measurement. For larger cats or small dogs, the glass fitting maxi pet door range offers a larger 195×185mm flap. Use the Pet Door Selector if you’re unsure.
